Who We Are

Providing expert retirement plan administration is at the core of what we do. The Nolan Company was founded in 1979 by Jim Nolan and became a division of T Bank, NA in 2019 where it continues to provide clients with cutting edge retirement plan design and administrative services.

The Nolan Company specializes in ministerial record keeping, administration, actuarial, and design services for retirement plans for small businesses and professional practices focusing on the needs of our clients to meet their retirement objectives.

The majority of our clients find us through referrals from financial, accounting, or legal professionals, as well as other clients. Our specialized design and administration services have gained us clients in 49 states. Most of these clients have fewer than 50 employees down to and including those who have only one employee.

Services

We provide our plan design and administrative services for cross tested 401(k) profit sharing plans and both traditional and cash balance defined benefit plans.  These can be either stand alone or combined to maximize benefits and deductions while maintaining flexibility.  Not only will we work with you to design a plan that maximizes tax deferred deductions for principal employees, our highly trained staff will work with you each year to make sure we continue to provide you individualized contributions with your deduction and staff costs in mind.

Plan Administration Services

There are many complex requirements and deadlines involved in maintaining a retirement plan. The highly trained staff of The Nolan Company provides assistance during every step in the process.

The Nolan Company provides a full range of ministerial administration services for our clients including:

  • Determination of optimal contribution based on plan provisions and client’s needs
  • Assist in the determination of participant Eligibility
  • Reconcile assets and auditing 401(k) Deferral timing for DOL required timelines
  • Preparation of annual report and employee certificates
  • Compliance testing, including 410(b), 401(a)4, 401(a)26, ADP/ACP, and top heavy
  • Preparation and filing of Annual Form 5500
  • Actuarial Services for defined benefit plans
  • Calculation of Distributions, including necessary paperwork and tax withholding filings and coordination with asset custodian and preparation of Form 1099-R if needed.
  • Preparation of annual notices, including Safe Harbor and PBGC notices as required Coordinate with ERISA attorney for plan document services

Plan Design Services

After consulting with a potential client and/or their adviser to discuss their individual savings and deduction needs, we will gather census data and prepare a feasibility study at no charge. In this study we outline the plans available to meet these needs as well as the costs and responsibilities for each type of plan.

If there is an existing plan, we will review and compare our recommendations to the deductions and benefits previously received.

Annual Update Process

​We have upgraded the portion of our website related to client access in order to provide additional security and convenience for you.

You will log in below with your username and password to retrieve your Census and Plan Disclosure Questionnaire and also to submit your documents to The Nolan Company. Your contact information (previously located on the first page of the questionnaire) will now be completed and/or confirmed online while submitting your documents.  Please make sure to select “Questionnaire” from the drop down menu and complete the requested information (or simply confirm) prior to submitting the form.

When you log in to retrieve your forms, you will use the buttons at the top for ‘Download Census’ and ‘Download Questionnaire’ to download these documents to your computer for completion.

Once complete, log in the same way to submit your documents to The Nolan Company. Directions for uploading them to us are provided on that page.

If you receive errors trying to log in, we recommend trying a different internet browser to see if that resolves the issue.  Some users are having issues logging in with Firefox.

Please do not submit zip files, password-protected files, or links.  These files will not submit properly.

Distributions

Clients and participants may request distribution paperwork below, however the primary contact for a participant should be their employer. We are limited in what information we can release directly to a participant due to confidentiality requirements. We are a third-party advisory firm and do not hold plan assets or have the authority to release funds but can facilitate paperwork in coordination with the plan trustee and investment company. We will review requests to confirm what distribution options, if any, are available at this time.  This request will be processed and responded to as soon as possible but may take 5-7 days for an initial response.

Whether the initial response is initiated by the participant or the employer, we will verify the distribution with the employer prior to sending paperwork.  Completed and signed distribution paperwork can be submitted by attaching and uploading below.
